I suppose that rander was ment as ranger

If you drop the bow and go for staffs or other 1 handed weapons together with some offhand you can increase the energy. No other way if ranger is your primary (can be mistaken but don't think so)

Otherway is the primary attribute for elementalists, and not sure if the bonus +5 energy on casters armor is ever increasing at later endgame

Yeah, just offhand focus items that can give +10 or even more, or staves which can also give + to Energy.

If you want to add energy to your character, choose a class as secondary like mesmer that has energy stealing capabilities.

Add points in expertise...which decrease the cost of all spells...

Only way to increase total energy (permantly) with all classes but elementalist is by items with energy + [?]. but you have to be primary elemenalist to use energy storage =/

Once you get far enough in the game, you can buy druid armor which adds a bit to your total energy.

What about Zealous weapons? Aren't they supposed to give 1 energy per hit?

Yes, but at the cost of one pip of natural energy regeneration while equipped.

You could buy the Druid (Ranger) Armor when you get to Lion's Arch. It gives you slightly more energy.

its not bugged. the description of the skills doesn't change, but the actual usage does.

Watch your energy next time you use a skill. If you use a skill that costs 10 in the description, it will actualy use 8, if you have 5 skill in expertise.

5 x 4% = 20%...

druid armor can give you more energy which i think is only +1 per armor part? in my opinion, zealous isnt such a great weapon upgrade. your Ranger character only has a max of 25 energy with only 3 bars of regen. equip zealous and you lose one regen bar. i had zealous for a while and used it with barrage, didint make any difference. zealous is pretty much useless. it would've been great only if there was no -1 energy regen. it's better for you to have high expertise instead. my Ranger has expertise level 11. i use powershot and penetrating attack a lot that cost 10 but it only cost me 6 to use. also try to capture elite skills. their energy cost are low. i have barrage and poison arrow which take 5 but only cost me 3 to use.

Not all. Attack skills, preperations, and traps. I think it may cover more then that, but certainly not all spells. I WISH it'd reduce the cost of all, because being a secondary Elementalist, I have access to some 25 energy cost spells. Without druid armor, I'd have to be full mana just to cast. If I died even once, I wouldn't be able to cast it at all. With druid armor, I can take 2 deaths before I can't cast them.

I believe I once had a bow that had +4 energy, but that was long ago and I don't recall ever seeing another since.

To sum it up, Druid Armor gets you to 31 Energy. Expertise helps pretty much only on Ranger stuff, and other then that you're screwed.

In battle Zealous string is nicer than you think. You lose 1 energy every 3 seconds, but you should be attacking more than once every 3 seconds. With barrage you should be gaining 2-4 energy in those 3 seconds. Even wih just normal attacks youll come out slightly ahead using a shortbow. Just think of the Zealous string as lowering the cost of all your bow skills by 1 energy. So barrage goes from 5 to 4 without any expertise, a 20% increase in efficiency. If your going from 4 to 3 then you have a 25% increase in efficiency, and if your going from 3 to 2 you have a 33% increase in effeciency. Then, if the barrage hits more than 3 people, your gaining energy.

After saying this, I do not believe barrage is the greatest skill. It will hardly ever hit more than 1 or 2 targets, but for its energy cost and recharge its a great skill all around.

Expertise never effects pure spells. At 10 expertise, if I cast Balthazar's Aura, it won't cast until I have 25 energy and after I cast it when I have exactly 25 energy, I'm at 0 energy. If it worked for spells that cost for Balthazar's Aura would be a cost of 17 (you get 3.3% reduction in skill costs per level of expertise.) Concussion Shot, on the other hand, also costs 25 energy and the net cost is always 17 when I use it. In your cast, you have 4 expertise, which equates to 3.3 x 4 = 13.2% energy reduction. So any "spell" you cast should only cost 86.8% of its original cost. The cost of Vampiric Touch would then be 13 and not 15. However, expertise will not effect this spell. In your case I would guess you cast it and then immediately regenned the 1 energy. That would account for your perception that it costs 14 instead of 15.

To the original poster, the only way to add energy is through items. Elementalists have an Energy Storage attribute that allows them to store up some extra energy, but it's for primary elementalists only. For all the rest of us, we're limited by the items we carry. I have a Smiting Staff I carry around that has +10 energy on it for those times when I need a bit more energy for my monk skills. I wear Druid's Armor. It has +8 energy on the chestpiece, and +1 energy on the gloves, legs, and feet, for a total of +11 energy.

Vampiric touch is a skill not a spell hence it works on it, however the lesser energy signet that an elementalist gets will not affect vampric touch at all as it works only on spells.

Now there is a bow that has low damage that you can get off of a collector that has an additional 5 energy. I believe its the one from pikan square for some charr carvings.

Well, you can put radiant insignia onto your armour, especially on the chest and leggings. Runes of attunement stack.

You can also get bows with +5 energy from collectors, and you may be able to craft them too.
